What is a scholarship?
This is a financial or an access award to an individual in an academic institution. The main purpose of the award is to help the individual to further their education. Scholarships follow different criteria as accorded by the source or the donor. A Medical Billing School Scholarship will constitute the following;
Categories of Scholarships:
Merit: For a student to achieve this type of financial aid the financial status is not a key factor to make them qualify for the aid but rather, it is meant to motivate that student on a particular subject. Like for instance, a student may be good at a certain sport, this motivates them.
Sociology: The recipient has to qualify through filtration in terms of ethnicity like religion, place of birth, nationality and other factor for them to qualify as the recipients.
Need: The coverage of this type of aid is diverse in that the family of the student may be incapable of catering for even basic needs in the family. In this case the aid is aimed at catering for the entire academic term of the awardees. This aid is sometimes clearly stated to express concern over the talented students of a certain region or a division.
General: This one does not put into consideration factors of incapability or talent but rather, emphasizes on the associations of the student with the particular academic institution or like a company can sponsor an employee to further education.
In other cases the scholarship may be in terms of “bond” requirement where the recipient is entitled to work for a period of time and later on the employer sponsors them to further their education. It is also applicable in cases where the recipient works in a remote area and later the employer considers the scholarship. This has been witnessed in the armed forces, teachers training, and health medical administration among others.
Sources of scholarships include; Chambers of commerce, Volunteer organizations, churches, non-profit firms, labor unions among others.
